Latitude and Longitude Coordinates (Lat, Lng) were historically represented in Degrees (°) - Minutes (') - Seconds ("). Today because of computers Decimal Degrees has become the de facto standard.

Latitude runs from the North Pole (90°) to the Equator (0°) to the South Pole (-90°). Longitude runs around the world on the Equator starting at Greenwich England longitude (0° by definition), east 180°, and west -180°. The center (0° latitude, 0° longitude) is where the equator and Greenwich longitude intersect.
In North America Latitude is North and positive (+), and Longitude is West and negative (-).
